Brief description
The government of Canada offers a number of programs, through which eligible sponsors may sponsor refugees (family members, relatives, or friends).In order for you (the sponsor) to be eligible to sponsor a refugee, you must be:
- Canadian citizen or;
- a Registered Indian or;
- a Permanent Resident
- and:
- have the required financial liabilities set by immigration Canada
- not at the default of the previous sponsorship
- not in admissible to sponsor refuges
As for the refugees, they have to meet the refugee definition as well as resettlement edibility. In brief, according to the Convention, a refugee, is someone who is unable or unwilling to return to their country of origin owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion.
Sponsoring refugees is a complex process and involves meeting international and national eligibilities for refugees.
